Having visited Musick Point a few times, I can confidently say it’s a spot worth adding to your list.

The view here is pretty incredible and it’s a bit more peaceful than other spots around the city. Thinking about visiting? Here’s everything you need to know.

MUSICK POINT LOCATION + PARKING

Musick Point is located in East Auckland, roughly 30 minutes from the CBD. To reach this scenic spot, you’ll drive along the motorway and through several suburbs, eventually arriving at the narrow peninsula.

Once there, you’ll notice that there are a few options to get to the lookout point. You can either park at the gate entrance before the golf course or you can park at the carpark at the end of Musick Point Road. If you opt for closer parking, be mindful of gate closure times as there is potential to get locked in (like me – oops). You will also be driving through the golf course –how fun!

Part of the road to Musick Point is closed, so there is a short walk to reach the lookout. As this is a memorial the walk leads you past a former radio transmission station used during WWII, adding a touch of history.

Past here there is a short trail that will lead you to the viewpoint. Here you’ll have panoramic views over the Hauraki Gulf, looking out over the iconic Rangitoto Island, as well as Motuihe and Waiheke Islands.

BEST TIME TO VISIT MUSICK POINT

My visits to Musick Point have always been for sunset. During the summer months it’s an ideal spot for a picnic. I’ve also heard great things about sunrise here, too.

Just be wary during the colder months the trail can become muddy.

AUCKLAND

Auckland is full of incredible spots, both in the city and out of it. Even though I live in the city my preference is to venture outwards to find incredible spots like Musick Point.

I’ve been lucky enough to explore a fair amount of this city and its outskirts. So if you’re looking for more incredible lookouts in the area these are my favourites. Or alternatively if you’re wanting to venture in the opposite direction out West, I have you covered here

In this post we have explored that Musick Point is a hidden gem in Auckland. It offers breathtaking views and a touch of history. Whether you visit for sunrise, sunset, or a peaceful daytime escape, it’s worth the trip. Remember to check parking and gate closure times to avoid any mishaps. Happy exploring!
