Mount Victoria Lookout is located in Devonport, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), New Zealand. It’s a spot you can visit anytime of day but I would highly recommend sunrise or sunset. The views over the city at this time with that light are incredible.

If it’s your first time in Auckland, there’s a whole host of must-see spots. But for now, let’s dive into Mount Victoria Lookout. Keep reading for everything you need to know for your visit.
MOUNT VICTORIA LOOKOUT LOCATION
Mount Victoria is located on the North Shore, affectionately dubbed “The Shore” by locals, in Auckland, New Zealand’s biggest city.
To get here and if traveling from the city you will most likely be crossing the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge. This in itself is an amazing view and a great start to your journey.
Departing from the CBD typically takes about 20 minutes, though traffic fluctuations might extend the drive to around 40 minutes. It’s always wise to peek at Google Maps for real-time updates before embarking on your drive.
MOUNT VICTORIA LOOKOUT PARKING
I’ll be frank—finding parking near Mount Victoria can be a bit of a mission. However, exercising patience usually pays off. Personally, I prefer the side streets when I visit. It is a residential area, meaning often there are no parking fees or time limits to worry about. But, make sure to check the parking signs though as it does depend on the time of day.
As the paths start from Kerr Street, this is always the first street I attempt to park on. If that fails give Rattray Street or Calliope Road a go.
MOUNT VICTORIA LOOKOUT WALK
You would think that as Mount Victoria sits as the highest volcano on the North Shore, the walk would be a bit longer than 10-20 minutes. However, at 283 feet it is a short one and is easily accessible via Kerr Street.

MOUNT VICTORIA LOOKOUT VIEWS
The summit of Mount Victoria Lookout provides sweeping views across Waitematā Harbour to Auckland city, all the way across to Takapuna and Rangitoto.
As I mentioned earlier, I would highly recommending visiting this one for sunrise or sunset. There are plenty of spots at the summit to park up with a picnic blanket and soak in the views.
THE AREA
The North Shore is definitely one of the most popular areas of Auckland. It’s full of great cafes, restaurants and shopping. It’s close enough to the inner city but still far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city itself.
Devonport holds some other great gems as well, including its very own Chocolate Factory and the Cheltenham Beach on a hot summers day. There’s also another lookout to consider–North Head (personally I think the views from Mount Victoria of the city are better). Additionally, it serves as a hub for travellers as this is also where the ferry terminal is, providing convenient access to explore Auckland further.
