MOTURIKI ISLAND

Just off Mount Maunganui beach you’ll also discover Moturiki Island, also referred to as Leisure Island. This iconic landmark is steeped in a rich history, initially inhabited by early Māori settlers. Connected to the mainland by a man-made land bridge, Moturiki Island offers a scenic view and is worth exploring. A popular short walking track guides you to the little island’s northern tip. Along the way you’ll have views across Mount Maunganui Beach, the mountain itself and Pacific.

THE HARBOUR

On the opposite side to Mount Maunganui beach you’ll find the harbour-side beach, known as Pilot Bay. If a swim amongst the waves doesn’t tickle your fancy, this is another option for a swim or a leisurely sit. It’s also a beautiful spot for sunset.
