MOONSCAPE OVERLOOK LOCATION
Moonscape Overlook is a hidden gem located in Wayne Country, southern Utah.
HOW TO GET TO MOONSCAPE OVERLOOK IN UTAH
Getting to Moonscape Overlook isn’t difficult but it does require navigating through remote and slightly rougher terrain.
Hanksville is the closest town, and if travelling from here you’ll be starting your journey on Utah State Route 24. It’ll take you approximately 35 minutes which includes Factory Butte Road.
The route is easily accessible, but it’s essential to come prepared. I found it helpful to download my maps offline due to limited reception here. I definitely would have got lost without it.
Once you’re on Factory Butte Road you’ll find that this will take you right to Moonscape Overlook. For the exact coordinates, see below:
38°27’05.8″N 110°50’16.6″W
DO YOU NEED A 4x4
I’d highly suggest a high-clearance vehicle as the road to Moonscape Overlook is rocky and can be challenging to drive with loads of deep indents and bumps. While a 4WD isn’t necessary in dry conditions, it may be a good idea if there is a bout of bad weather.
Even so, make sure to double-check road conditions before setting out.
- Make sure to download the area as an offline map on Google Maps as reception is limited.
- What you see on social media is incredible – but it’s even better in person.
- Best time to visit/photograph is during sunrise or sunset.
- Flying drones is allowed
- Suggest a high clearance vehicle; 4WD is necessary only in wet conditions.
- Freedom camping is available on-site as it’s BLM land, but there are no amenities.
- For accommodation stay nearby at Cathedral Valley Inn or explore options in Hanksville.
- Be cautious around cliff edges, and wear sturdy shoes for walking on the rocky terrain.
- Expect some company, especially at sunrise, as it’s a popular spot among photographers.
