BENNETTS BLUFF LOOKOUT LOCATION
Bennetts Bluff Lookout is located on the Glenorchy-Queenstown Road, approximately a 30-minute drive towards Glenorchy from Queenstown. This scenic route hugs the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu, offering incredible views that lasts throughout the trip.
Parking tips
Parking is conveniently located just off the Glenorchy-Queenstown Road, at the base of the trail. The parking area has in the last year or two, been updated so there are plenty of spaces available, making it hassle-free to find a spot. Be mindful during peak hours, as it can still get busy.
HOW TO GET TO BENNETTS BLUFF LOOKOUT
As mentioned above, Bennetts Bluff Lookout is an easy 30-minute drive from Queenstown. Ideally, you’ll have your own vehicle or a rental car to make the most of the journey as having your own transportation allows for plenty of stops along the way to soak in the beautiful lakeside views.
For those without a vehicle, joining a guided tour is a great alternative. Many tours, such as this Glenorchy Guided Journey, include stops at Bennetts Bluff Lookout as part of their itinerary. These tours often include expert commentary, meaning you’ll also learn more about the area along the way.
BENNETTS BLUFF LOOKOUT TRAIL
The trail to Bennetts Bluff Lookout is short, sweet, and stunning. The track (along with the carpark) was recently upgraded, is well-maintained and accessible to most of those visiting. The five-minute walk from the parking area to the lookout is also easy and suitable for all fitness levels.
At the top, the reward is pretty incredible. The lookout offers views of Lake Wakatipu, with its striking blue waters framed by the jagged peaks of the Queenstown mountain ranges. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to visit on a blue bird day with no wind, where the scenery is endless.
BEST TIME TO VISIT AND HOW TO AVOID THE CROWDS
As Bennetts Bluff Lookout is located between two popular destinations you can imagine it’s a popular stop, and therefore crowded at times. To enjoy a more peaceful experience I’d suggest to plan your visit for either early in the morning or later in the evening.
Summer here also experiences some of the busiest months. Long daylight hours and warm weather make it a popular destination but shoulder seasons like Autumn and Spring will be much quieter. Winter brings snow-capped peaks, adding an extra layer of beauty to the scenery.
I personally visited this spot in Autumn, and absolutely loved it. It was newly renovated and even though slightly busy, we just waited a little longer for photo opportunities.
